1919
With the conclusion of the First World War, Chaya and Zvi Leiman, a young Jewish couple, left their rural life in Poland and relocated to Berlin, aspiring to embrace a more modern urban lifestyle in Western Europe. They established a wholesale shop for sweets on the main street Kaiserstraße, where they also employed several workers. The family-owned store was situated in front of the SS headquarters in Berlin. Among their customers were officers who, while purchasing chocolates and sweets, would engage in conversations with the Jewish couple. In Berlin, they had Baruch (father of Moni and Tali) and Yaffa, who later married Avraham Schlussel (father of Rubin).
1935
After the Nazis came to power, Zvi Leiman was listed for arrest as a Jew. Fortunately, a SS officer who raided the store warned him to leave the house before nightfall and not hide in the family warehouse. The couple quickly returned to their parents’ house in Poland. Subsequent inquiries revealed that they had settled all debts with their commercial suppliers. Afterwards, the family immigrated to Israel and established a candy store on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv.
1955
Baruch Leiman, alongside his brother-in-law Avraham Schlussel (Yaffa’s husband), established Leiman Schlussel, a candy wholesaler. They opened a wholesale store on Nachalat Binyamin Street, providing sweets to kiosks and grocery stores in Tel Aviv.
1964
When the government permitted imports, the family started importing brands such as Toblerone, Mentos, Wrigley chewing gum, Merci chocolate, Toffee, and Werther’s butter candies. Subsequently, they secured the Ferrero Rocher franchise, followed by the exclusive franchise for Loacker and Mentos products
